The best Talkwalker alternative in 2026 is buzzabout, because it analyzes the video, audio and images in social posts self-serve from $98 a month, while Talkwalker sells that kind of analysis only through an enterprise contract.
The tools also differ in what they are for. Talkwalker is built for monitoring: you write saved searches from keywords and Boolean operators, and it tracks volume, sentiment and spikes. buzzabout is a social media research platform. It extracts what the conversation means: pain points, objections, trends and the audience's own words.
Talkwalker alternatives split two ways. Some replace the contract with another contract. Others sell the capability without one. This guide prices both, with sources, and says when to keep Hootsuite Enterprise.
Talkwalker now ships inside Hootsuite#
Talkwalker is no longer an independent vendor. Hootsuite agreed to buy the Luxembourg company on April 8, 2024 (BetaKit).
On June 24, 2026, Hootsuite renamed it Lumen by Talkwalker, one of four products in its new Social OS, wired into the Wisdom AI agent (GlobeNewswire).
Three doors, one of them self-serve#
The product did not shrink. It got harder to reach. Per the Talkwalker and Hootsuite sites in October 2026, there are three ways in:
- Direct from Talkwalker. Core, Analyze or Business tiers, each quoted after a demo.
- Hootsuite Enterprise. "Advanced listening powered by Lumen", with 13 months of history.
- Hootsuite self-serve plans. Lighter built-in listening; Professional gets a 30-day Quick Search.
Hootsuite describes Lumen Lite as brand monitoring "from directly within Hootsuite" and says full Lumen offers "over two years of historical data" (vendor site, October 2026). So full Talkwalker is an enterprise purchase, with no self-serve route.
Talkwalker in October 2026: what you would be replacing#
Lumen by Talkwalker covers 30+ social networks and 150 million websites across 239 countries and regions. Its Blue Silk AI finds logos in images and video and transcribes audio (vendor site, October 2026).

- Pricing
- Core, Analyze, Business tiers, custom quotes only; Vendr median $13,298/yr
- Best for
- Enterprises that buy listening on contract and staff analysts to run it
- Trial
- None listed on its pricing page; every plan leads to a demo form (vendor site, October 2026)
Pros
- Logos, scenes and objects detected in images; logos found in video
- Speech-to-text on audio and video posts
- Sentiment and 7 emotions scored in 192 languages
- Unlimited users on every tier
Cons
- Custom quotes only; no self-serve route to full Lumen
- Boolean topic setup; reviewers flag the learning curve
- More topics, filters and history require a higher tier
The contract is the product#
Talkwalker publishes tier names, not prices. Its pricing page says "pick your plan to get a custom quote", and higher tiers add topics, filters, channels and history (vendor site, October 2026).
What buyers actually pay#
The only public number comes from buyers. Vendr, which benchmarks software contracts, puts the median Talkwalker buyer at $13,298 a year. Its enterprise peers cost more, and buzzabout's annual plans cost far less:
Sources: Vendr medians for Brandwatch, Meltwater and Talkwalker; buzzabout list prices from pricing. Vendr figures are what the median buyer paid, not list prices. The cheapest of those contracts, Talkwalker's, buys more than thirteen years of buzzabout Starter on annual billing.
Reviewers notice the price too:
"The pricing module, seems expensive."
Four questions before you sign#
- Can you buy without a demo? If not, price the contract, not the tier.
- What does the next question cost? Count topic slots, tier upgrades and usage fees.
- Who turns output into insight? If the answer is "our analysts", budget their time.
- How fresh is your data? Research runs on this month's posts, not 2015's.
The visual engine is real, and it is locked#
Talkwalker's visual analysis goes well beyond text. Its Blue Silk AI page lists these capabilities, among others (vendor site, October 2026):
- Logo recognition: brand logos, scenes and objects detected in images
- Video recognition: your logos found inside video content
- Speech to text: audio and video posts transcribed, then analyzed
- Sentiment and emotion: 7 emotions scored across 192 languages
The engine runs at scale. Talkwalker says Blue Silk makes more than 30 billion AI predictions a day (vendor site, October 2026).
What reviewers say it takes#
Reviewers like the precision, and say it takes skill to reach it:
"The Boolean features help me get exactly the results I need and want."
The same G2 page notes "the learning curve is somewhat expected given the depth of the tool." Another reviewer writes that "Talkwalker doesn't always catch every piece that I need monitored" (G2).
A Capterra reviewer found it "really hard to catch up for a first time analytical tool user" (Capterra). The capability is there; the contract assumes trained operators to unlock it.
What the contract pays for#
Talkwalker was founded in 2009 (BetaKit), when analyst-built dashboards were scarce. Today one AI prompt builds that dashboard.
Deep archives depreciate too, because markets move and research needs fresh data. The contract price pays for that past.
Multimodal analysis is no longer an enterprise feature#
Here is the shift this guide rests on. Reading video, audio and images once needed a firehose, a data science team and a contract. In 2026 it is a feature of self-serve software.
Video matters because more and more consumer opinion is spoken, not typed. A TikTok review says its verdict out loud and shows the product on screen, while the caption may say nothing. Text-only tools read the caption.
The price of seeing the video#
Only two tools here publish a full price for a plan that includes image or video analysis. Both figures are list prices for one year on annual billing:
Mentionlytics puts image and video analysis on Business, at $624 a month billed yearly (vendor site, October 2026). buzzabout includes it on Starter (pricing).
YouScan has no bar because Visual Insights has no published price. Its Starter plan alone costs $5,988 a year, and Visual Insights is an add-on (vendor site, October 2026). Talkwalker, Brandwatch, Sprinklr, Meltwater and Pulsar publish no price at all. The capability went self-serve; most of the category did not follow.
Talkwalker alternatives compared#
Prices come from vendor pages fetched in October 2026, and from Vendr where no price is published. Per-year figures use annual billing. Vendr figures are median negotiated contracts, not list prices. Sources are in each entry below.

| Talkwalker | Not offered | ~$13,298 (Vendr median) | Demo, custom quote | Logos, scenes, objects, speech | Enterprise listening |
#1 · The research pick
1. buzzabout: the multimodal analysis, without the contract#
buzzabout is a social media research platform, not a listening tool. Listening tools count mentions of topics you define. buzzabout extracts what the conversation means: trending topics, pain points, objections, the audience's own words, and who is talking.
- Ask in plain language. "Why do runners return trail shoes?" No Boolean setup.
- Pick your sources. Reddit, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
- Get structure back. Patterns, sampled quotes, cohort splits and shareable live charts.

What it does that Talkwalker gates#
- Multimodal from Starter. Video and audio transcribed, on-screen text read, objects and logos detected.
- Every mention labeled on arrival. Emotion, hook, intent, narrative and tone, ready to filter.
- Comments included. Up to 100 per post, where buyers argue and object.
- Agents that process. They extract configured pains and topics, then send digests.
- Audience research from Pro. AI-estimated profiles of commenters: occupation, interests, OCEAN personality.
Listening agents push those digests to Slack, email and webhooks, and MCP connectors put the data inside Claude or ChatGPT on every plan (pricing). For a Reddit-first workflow, see Reddit social listening.
- Pricing
- Starter $98/mo ($980/yr) · Pro $178 ($1,780/yr) · Business $450 ($4,500/yr), per buzzabout pricing
- Best for
- Marketers, agencies and founders who need video-era consumer insight without a contract
- Trial
- "a $1 one-day trial with 1,000 credits, followed by 50% off your first paid month." Monthly plans only.
A year of Starter costs $980 (pricing). Vendr's median Talkwalker contract is $13,298. No demo call stands between you and the first answer.
Pros
- Video, audio, on-screen text and logos analyzed from the $98 plan
- Plain-language questions instead of Boolean strings
- Agents push processed digests to Slack, email and webhooks
- MCP connectors for Claude and ChatGPT on every plan
Cons
- Seven social platforms; no news, print or broadcast monitoring
- No publishing, inbox or customer-care ticketing
- One seat on Starter; Talkwalker includes unlimited users
- API access starts on the $450 Business plan
The enterprise suites: Brandwatch, Sprinklr, Meltwater#
If procurement insists on a Talkwalker-shaped contract, these are the like-for-like swaps. Each is demo-gated and quote-only.
Each also prices assets that lose value every year. Dashboards that took analysts weeks are one AI prompt now, and archives age as markets move. Research needs this month's conversation.
2. Brandwatch: an archive back to 2008, at nearly four times the price#
Brandwatch Consumer Research holds 1.4+ trillion posts back to 2008, adds 496 million new posts a day, and runs image analysis trained on billions of images (vendor site, October 2026).
It is a direct Talkwalker swap, and the priciest one here. Vendr puts the median buyer at $50,000 a year across 40 purchases, nearly four times Talkwalker's median.
Users still wrestle with the machinery. One G2 reviewer writes: "We often find ourselves confused about how query sampling actually works" (G2). The full field is in our Brandwatch alternatives guide.

- Pricing
- Custom contracts; Vendr median $50,000/yr
- Best for
- Enterprises whose procurement requires an archive back to 2008
- Trial
- Demo request only (vendor site, October 2026)
Pros
- Archive back to 2008: 1.4+ trillion posts
- Image analysis and custom classifiers
- Iris AI assistant turns data into summaries
Cons
- Vendr median near $50,000 a year
- A G2 reviewer reports confusion over query sampling
- Archive depth prices the past, not this month
3. Sprinklr: listening inside a customer-experience suite#
Sprinklr sells listening as one product, Insights, inside a platform that also runs customer service, social publishing and marketing. Insights covers 30+ channels, with firehose access to 10+ (vendor site, October 2026).
Its visual net is broad: logo detection across GIFs, images and videos, plus sentiment and emotion across text, video, audio and images. A newer Video Intelligence module sits beside it (vendor site, October 2026).
Pricing is quote-only. Vendr notes that Insights is priced on user licenses, data sources and query volume (Vendr). Our Sprinklr alternatives guide goes deeper.

- Pricing
- Quote-only; priced on users, data sources and query volume (Vendr)
- Best for
- Enterprises running care, publishing and listening on one platform
- Trial
- Demo request (vendor site, October 2026)
Pros
- Logo detection in GIFs, images and video
- Listening, care and publishing on one platform
- Firehose access to 10+ channels
Cons
- Quote-only; cost grows with users, sources and queries
- A full CX platform to buy when you need listening
- Demo-gated, like Talkwalker
4. Meltwater: the media monitoring contract#
All four Meltwater plans (Starter, Pro, Enterprise, Agency) route to sales. It "does not offer a self-serve free trial," and most contracts carry a 12-month minimum (vendor site, October 2026).
The strength is media breadth: 1.3+ billion documents ingested a day in 240+ languages, with media relations and influencer modules beside social listening (vendor site, October 2026). Visual listening for logos, objects and scenes launched in 2022 (vendor press release, September 2022).
Vendr puts the median buyer at $25,800 a year across 126 purchases. API and MCP integrations are listed on Enterprise and Agency. More in our Meltwater alternatives breakdown.

- Pricing
- Quote-only, 12-month minimum; Vendr median $25,800/yr
- Best for
- PR and comms teams whose main surface is news and broadcast
- Trial
- No self-serve trial; guided demo only (vendor site, October 2026)
Pros
- Broad media net: 1.3+ billion documents a day
- 240+ languages; Mira AI on every plan
- Visual listening for logos, objects and scenes
Cons
- No self-serve trial; 12-month minimum
- API and MCP listed only on Enterprise and Agency
- Social listening is one module of a PR platform
The visual and audience specialists: YouScan, Pulsar#
These two compete with Talkwalker on one strength rather than on breadth: YouScan on images, Pulsar on audiences. Both are built for teams that live inside a listening dashboard.
5. YouScan: image-first listening with a published entry price#
YouScan's Visual Insights detects "logos, objects, scenes, activities and demographic information on images," drawing on 500K+ image sources (vendor site, October 2026). Image analysis is the center of its pitch.
Unusually for this tier, it prints a price. Starter is $499 a month billed annually, for 3 topics, up to 15,000 mentions a month, unlimited users and 10 Insights Copilot questions (vendor site, October 2026).
The catch: Visual Insights and Audience Insights are add-ons on Starter, included only in custom Unlimited plans. One G2 reviewer would welcome "a tool that assists us in creating queries" (G2).

- Pricing
- Starter $499/mo billed annually; Unlimited plans custom (vendor site, October 2026)
- Best for
- Teams that want a listening contract with unlimited users
- Trial
- Free trial account, set up after a demo request (vendor site, October 2026)
Pros
- Image analysis: logos, objects, scenes, activities
- Published Starter price with unlimited users
- Insights Copilot answers questions about your data
Cons
- Visual Insights is an add-on below Unlimited
- 3 topics and 15,000 mentions on Starter
- Billed annually; no monthly option listed
6. Pulsar: audience segments and hard-to-reach markets#
Pulsar calls itself audience intelligence. Its TRAC product segments the people in a conversation into communities, with 50+ filters for demographics, behaviors and affinities (vendor site, October 2026).
Coverage is its other edge: data from 195 countries, including VK, Naver, Weibo, Little Red Book, WeChat and Baidu, plus news, print, TV, radio and podcasts. Logo recognition is listed among its tools (vendor site, October 2026).
There is no public price; every path ends at a demo or a contact form. Pulsar sits in a group with the Isentia and Vuelio media businesses (vendor site, October 2026).

- Pricing
- Not published; demo or contact form (vendor site, October 2026)
- Best for
- Teams that need Weibo, WeChat, Little Red Book, VK or Naver data
- Trial
- Demo request
Pros
- Audience segmentation by community, built in
- Weibo, Little Red Book, WeChat, VK and Naver coverage
- News, print, broadcast and podcasts beside social
Cons
- No published pricing
- Logo recognition only; no video analysis on its product pages
- Built for research teams with time to explore
The self-serve trackers: Brand24, Mentionlytics#
If the contract was the problem and keyword alerts are the job, these two sell online with a card. They track declared keywords and count mentions. Neither analyzes video or images on its entry plan.
7. Brand24: keyword tracking with broad text sources#
Brand24 Individual is $249 a month, or $199 billed annually, for 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions a month, 1 user and 12-hour updates (vendor site, October 2026). A 14-day free trial needs no sales call.
Its source list spans TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, LinkedIn, podcasts and newsletters, depending on plan. AI Insights and AI Topics start on Pro at $499 ($399 annual), and an MCP server is available (vendor site, October 2026).
Its plan comparison lists no image or video analysis. See the full field in our Brand24 alternatives guide.

- Pricing
- Individual $249/mo ($199 annual) · Pro $499 ($399) (vendor site, October 2026)
- Best for
- Brand alerts across social, news and podcasts at SMB prices
- Trial
- 14-day free trial
Pros
- Self-serve with a 14-day free trial
- Wide text sources, including podcasts and newsletters
- MCP access to live mention data
Cons
- 3 keywords and 2,000 mentions on the entry plan
- No image or video analysis in the plan comparison
- API access costs an extra $149
8. Mentionlytics: a $59 entry plan, with visual analysis on Business#
Mentionlytics starts low. Basic is on a limited-time offer: $59 a month, or $49 a month billed yearly, for 3 keyword rules, 5,000 mentions and 2 users (vendor site, October 2026). The 14-day trial needs no credit card.
It now advertises AI Image Recognition and AI Video & Audio Analysis, which summarizes YouTube, TikTok and podcast mentions with timestamps. Both sit only on Business ($749 a month, $624 billed yearly) and Enterprise (vendor site, October 2026).
So visual analysis exists here too, at more than seven times buzzabout's Starter price. Mentionlytics also lists an MCP connector from Pro (vendor site, October 2026).

- Pricing
- Basic $59/mo ($49 billed yearly), both limited-time offers · Pro $499 ($416) · Business $749 ($624) (vendor site, October 2026)
- Best for
- Small brands that want cheap alerts across web and social
- Trial
- 14-day free trial, no credit card
Pros
- Entry plan from $59 a month, on offer
- AI Visibility add-on tracks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity answers
- Image and video analysis available on Business
Cons
- Visual analysis starts at $749 a month
- 3 keyword rules and 5,000 mentions on Basic
- AI mention clustering starts on Pro
Already on Hootsuite Enterprise? Keep what you pay for#
If your company already has a Hootsuite Enterprise contract, the Talkwalker engine is bundled in it. Check that before you sign anything new.
Hootsuite Enterprise: Talkwalker-powered listening, already in the contract#
Do not buy Talkwalker twice. Hootsuite Enterprise includes "advanced listening powered by Lumen" with 13 months of history, alerts, scheduled reports and brand review monitoring (vendor site, October 2026).
Self-serve plans, $99 to $399 per user a month on annual billing, carry lighter listening: Professional searches 30 days with Quick Search and compares up to five results (vendor site, October 2026).
What Enterprise does not change is the method. Lumen still runs on saved searches built from keywords and Boolean operators (vendor site, October 2026). For research questions, pair it with buzzabout rather than adding seats.

- Pricing
- Enterprise custom; self-serve $99, $199, $399 per user/mo, billed annually (vendor site, October 2026)
- Best for
- Teams that already hold a Hootsuite Enterprise contract
- Trial
- 14-day free trial on self-serve plans
Pros
- Lumen-powered listening inside a contract you already have
- Wisdom AI agent and Lumen MCP connectors
- Publishing, inbox and listening in one suite
Cons
- Lumen-powered listening needs Enterprise; self-serve gets lighter listening
- Saved searches still built from keywords and Boolean
- Per-user pricing on every self-serve plan
The suite side of this decision is covered in our Hootsuite alternatives and Sprout Social alternatives guides.
What about just using ChatGPT?#
Can ChatGPT do social listening? Not on its own. It cannot see this week's TikToks or Reddit threads, so it answers from training data and whatever you paste in.
That works for brainstorming and fails for research. A claim like "buyers are leaving over price" needs real posts, counts and quotes behind it, or it is a guess with good formatting.
The fix is grounding. Give the assistant labeled social data over MCP and it reasons over real posts:
- buzzabout: MCP connectors for Claude and ChatGPT on every plan (pricing)
- Lumen, Meltwater, Brand24, Mentionlytics: MCP access at their own price points
For the method behind AI-assisted research, see our step-by-step audience research guide.
How to choose: the contract or the capability#
Most teams leaving Talkwalker want one of two things. Some need a contract: procurement terms, global media breadth, analyst services. Most need a capability: knowing what people say, in video as well as text.
You need video, audio and image posts understood without a contract
→ buzzabout
Transcription, on-screen text, objects and logos from $98/mo.
Your job is research: pains, objections, buyer language, who is talking
→ buzzabout
Plain-language questions; insight is the output, not mention counts.
You want your AI assistant answering from real social data
→ buzzabout
MCP connectors for Claude and ChatGPT on every plan.
You already pay for Hootsuite Enterprise
→ Hootsuite Enterprise, plus buzzabout for research
Lumen-powered listening is bundled in your contract.
Procurement requires a long archive and you staff analysts
→ Brandwatch
Archive back to 2008, at a Vendr median near $50,000/yr.
Listening is one part of an enterprise customer-care program
→ Sprinklr
Listening, care and publishing on one platform.
Press, print and broadcast are your primary surface
→ Meltwater
Media monitoring is what its contract buys.
You need Weibo, Little Red Book or WeChat coverage
→ Pulsar
It lists those platforms among its sources.
Procurement wants unlimited seats on a published annual price
→ YouScan
Starter is $499/mo billed annually; visual analysis costs extra.
You only need cheap keyword alerts
→ Mentionlytics or Brand24
Self-serve, Mentionlytics from $59/mo; no visual analysis at entry.
You have no budget at all
→ Talkwalker Alerts
Free web alerts; not social research.
Frequently asked questions#
What is the best Talkwalker alternative? For research-shaped work, buzzabout: it analyzes video, audio and images self-serve from $98/mo and answers plain-language questions. For a like-for-like enterprise contract, Brandwatch and Sprinklr are direct swaps. If you hold Hootsuite Enterprise, Lumen-powered listening is already included.
How much does Talkwalker cost in 2026? Talkwalker does not publish prices. Its Core, Analyze and Business tiers are quoted after a demo, with unlimited users on every tier (vendor site, October 2026). Vendr's buyer data puts the median at $13,298 a year.
Is Talkwalker free, and are there free Talkwalker alternatives? The platform is not free, but Talkwalker Alerts and Free Social Search cost nothing (vendor site, October 2026). For social research, buzzabout offers "a $1 one-day trial with 1,000 credits, followed by 50% off your first paid month." Brand24 and Mentionlytics offer 14-day trials.
Is Talkwalker part of Hootsuite now? Yes. Hootsuite agreed to buy Talkwalker on April 8, 2024 (BetaKit) and renamed it Lumen by Talkwalker on June 24, 2026 (GlobeNewswire). Its site now reads "Talkwalker is now Lumen by Talkwalker" (vendor site, October 2026).
What is the difference between Talkwalker and Meltwater? Talkwalker's focus is social and visual analysis: logos, scenes and objects in images, logos in video, speech-to-text. Meltwater's focus is media intelligence across news and broadcast, with social listening as a module (vendor sites, October 2026). Both are quote-only; Vendr medians are $13,298 and $25,800 a year.
Which Talkwalker alternatives analyze images and video? Among these tools, only buzzabout includes it on the entry plan: transcription, on-screen text, object and logo detection from $98/mo. Mentionlytics starts it at $749/mo, and YouScan sells Visual Insights as an add-on. Sprinklr, Brandwatch, Meltwater and Pulsar offer visual features inside quoted contracts.
Can ChatGPT do social listening? Not by itself: it cannot see live social posts, so it answers from training data. Connected to real data over MCP, it can reason over actual conversations. buzzabout's MCP connectors work with Claude and ChatGPT on every plan (pricing).
Buy the capability, skip the contract#
Talkwalker built strong visual listening, then became a product inside Hootsuite. If you need that contract, keep it. If you need the capability, it no longer requires one.
Ask one real question about your market and see what comes back: patterns, quotes, transcribed videos and, from Pro, AI-estimated profiles of who is talking. buzzabout's trial is "a $1 one-day trial with 1,000 credits, followed by 50% off your first paid month."
